American Humane President and CEO Dr. Robin Ganzert to Address Second World Animal Welfare Congress in Mexico City on New Global Effort Certifying the Humane Treatment of Millions of Animals in World’s Zoos and Aquariums
Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane, the United States’ first national humane organization that for 139 years has been first to serve the interests of animals, will be delivering a major address at the second World Animal Welfare Congress in Mexico City on October 5. Her speech, “Arks of Hope, Ambassadors for Animals: The Pivotal Position of Zoos and Aquariums and Next Steps in Ensuring the Welfare of Animals in Human Care,” will detail an ambitious new, science-based certification effort by American Humane to help assure the humane treatment of the millions of animals living in the world’s zoos and aquariums.
“Animals enrich our planet and our lives, and humanity has a moral obligation to preserve wild and endangered animals,” says Dr. Ganzert. “In the face of what scientists are calling a ‘Sixth Extinction,’ zoos and aquariums have become modern-day arks of hope for many species.
