Dr. Guy Pidgeon has served veterinary medicine with a distinguished thirty-eight year career. He retired from veterinary medicine in 2013 and was recently recognized by his veterinary colleagues in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) with the ACVIM Lee and Inge Pyle Service Award.
He is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with twelve years of university teaching experience emphasizing clinical practice, instruction and extension work. He won teaching awards for four years at Auburn University; Resident of the Year awards for both years of residency.
He holds Diplomate status (by exam) in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and served the organization in a number of elected offices culminating as Chairman of the Board of Regents.
Dr. Pidgeon joined Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. as Associate Director, Department of Veterinary Affairs in April 1990 and was promoted to Director, April 1994. Responsibilities included coordination of Hill’s programs at the 27 U.S. Colleges of Veterinary Medicine and 65 Veterinary Technician schools, arranging sponsorships at state and national veterinary meetings, seminar development and personnel scheduling. Seven veterinarians, one veterinary technician and two clerical persons reported to the Director.
He was selected Chief of Staff of The Animal Medical Center, New York City in March 1996. He was elected President of Board of Trustees and named Chief Executive Officer of The AMC in June 1997. The Bobst Hospital of the Animal Medical Center managed over 50,000 patient visits per year with a staff of 90+ veterinarians. The Center’s Institute for Post-graduate Education offered training for veterinarians at the intern level and provided residency programs in a number of specialties.
He was appointed Assistant Executive Director of The Western Veterinary Conference (WVC) June 2006 and promoted to Chief Executive Officer in November 2007. The WVC’s Annual Conference is one of the oldest and largest assemblies of veterinary practitioners in the world and is unique in the number, spectrum, depth and diversity of learning opportunities. WVC significantly expanded its programs with the completion of the Oquendo Center for Clinical Education, a 66,000 sq’ veterinary continuing education center, opened in 2009.
With the WVC Board of Directors, he developed a transition plan to a new CEO with a 24-month timeline. He successfully recruited a prominent veterinarian as Chief Medical Officer to assume veterinary responsibilities and mentored the WVC Assistant CEO prior to the announcement of his promotion, March, 2013. He assisted the transition while serving as CEO Emeritus for 4 months. He fully retired June 30th, 2013.
Dr. Pidgeon received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Colorado State University in 1975.
