The 139th Dog Show, Agility, AKC Meet The Breeds February 14-17 with support from Purina Pro Plan
With an incomparable legacy born of a dedication to the sport of dogs, the Westminster Kennel Club in 2015 will once again, with the support of Purina Pro Plan, add a new event to its annual New York City celebration of the dogs in our lives. As always, the crown jewel of “Westminster Week” will be its iconic 139th Annual Westminster Kennel Club All Breed Dog Show on Monday and Tuesday, February 16-17. America’s oldest organization dedicated to the sport of purebred dogs will also present its 2nd Annual Masters Agility Championship at Westminster and, for the first time, The Westminster Kennel Club presents AKC Meet the Breeds. All events are presented by Purina Pro Plan, which is dedicated to helping dogs of all activity levels excel through performance nutrition and expert resources.
In 2014, the Agility Championship introduced America’s fastest-growing and tremendously popular sport to Westminster’s activities for the first time. This year, Meet the Breeds will bring the AKC’s popular, hands-on educational event into the same venue, giving dog lovers two entertaining opportunities. Now in its sixth year, AKC Meet the Breeds offers attendees the unique chance to meet and play with nearly 200 different dog breeds from Akitas to Xoloitzcuintlis, all while learning about responsible pet ownership and what breed is right for their lifestyle. The event features elaborately decorated booths depicting fun elements of each breed’s history. Attendees are encouraged to learn from the experts themselves – breeders, enthusiasts, trainers and groomers who can share what makes their breed unique from all the rest. Agility and Meet the Breeds will take place on Saturday, February 14 preceding the Dog Show at Pier 94 and Pier 92 respectively. The Dog Show will take place at the Piers as well, with breed judging during the day on Monday and Tuesday. As it has for all but seven of its 138 previous years, Westminster will stage its finals (Groups, Junior Showmanship Finals, and Best In Show) at the World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden.
