Pets are family and pets, just like humans are susceptable to bacteria and viruses. While cleaning products such as Clorox regular bleach or Clorox Clean-up Cleaner + Bleach should not come in direct contact with animals, they are essential in keeping pet areas clean and disinfected. Dr. Evan Antin provided ten tips on National Pet Day to keep your furry friends happy.

  • Provide a clean, safe and comfortable living environment for your pet. Use safe, tough products like Clorox Clean-up Cleaner + Bleach to protect against viruses and eliminate the toughest pet stains.
  • Provide a healthy, quality diet according to your pet’s age, metabolism and activity level. Don’t forget to always provide fresh drinking water.
  • Pets need to see their veterinarian regularly for vaccines, deworming and flea and tick medications.
  • Offer regular exercise opportunities and adjust those activities based on your pet’s age, health and abilities.
  • Socialize your pet depending on their breed/species and give him/her plenty of opportunities to interact with other dogs and people.
  • Get your pet microchipped and licensed with your county to ensure their safety.
  • Regularly groom your pet, including nail trims if necessary. Keeping them clean is not only important for their health and comfort, but also encourages other people to interact with your pet more often, which provides terrific socializing and enrichment.
  • Crate train your pet. Their crate should only be a place associated with clean, positive energy, not a time-out or punishment space. Use Clorox products to keep this private space disinfected as well so their safe haven isn’t filled with germs.
  • To successfully potty train your pet, start positive reinforcement training at a young age by offering treats/rewards and verbal, positive feedback immediately following a desired behavior like urinating/defecating outside. Clean accidents as soon as you see them, especially with multi-pet households and do so with an effective cleaner such as Clorox Clean-Up Cleaner + Bleach to help destroy infectious pathogens.
  • Stay up-to-date with vaccinations, as they are the most effective way to reduce the likelihood of some of the scariest infectious diseases in pets. This defense should come alongside maintaining a clean environment with disenfecting products in case other furry friends haven’t received their shots.
