Germinder + Associates has named Guy Pidgeon, DVM, DACVIM, a distinguished thirty-eight year career board-certified diplomate in veterinary medicine and U.S. Marine Corps veteran as the eighth #Germinder20 #PowerofPink Honoree to receive the award. Dr. Pidgeon has designated his veterinary school alma mater, the Colorado State College of Veterinary Medicine to receive his $1,000 Honoree donation. “It’s a distinct honor to be included in the company of my peers for this award. Giving back is important for every profession and I appreciate what Lea-Ann is doing with this program to benefit the veterinary profession, my colleagues and those organizations we hold dear,” said Guy Pidgeon, DVM, DACVIM.

Germinder and Dr. Pidgeon first met when Dr. Pidgeon was Director of Veterinary Affairs for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. Dr. Pidgeon was responsible, together with Dr. Dan Richardson, for launching Prescription Diet Canine t/d. He helped oversee the development of the “Pets Need Dental Care, Too!” campaign with Germinder’s agency at the time and the relationship with the American Veterinary Medical Association and American Veterinary Dental Society. They later worked together on other media relations campaigns and programs.

I am honored he is joining the Germinder20 Power of Pink Honorees. Thank you Guy, for all you have contributed to veterinary medicine, and to my work with you and your veterinary colleagues. Dr. Pidgeon has served veterinary medicine with extraordinary leadership. He retired from veterinary medicine in 2013 after serving as Chief Executive Officer of Western Veterinary Conference. Prior to joining Western Veterinary Conference he served as President of the Board of Trustees and was named Chief Executive Officer of The Animal Medical Center, New York City (The AMC) in June 1997. He joined The AMC as Chief of Staff in 1996. Prior to joining The AMC he was Director of the Department of Veterinary Affairs at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. He joined Hill’s Pet Nutrition in 1990 as Associate Director. Prior to joining Hill’s he served twelve years at Auburn University.

He holds Diplomate status (by exam) in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and served the organization in a number of elected offices culminating as Chairman of the Board of Regents.

Dr. Pidgeon has been honored with numerous awards throughout his career. He was honored in July 2018 by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) with the ACVIM Lee and Inge Pyle Service Award.

Dr. Pidgeon served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966 to 1969 in Danang, Vietnam. He received a Naval Commendation Medal for his service. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 1975.

#Germinder20 #ThePowerofPink was announced in January 2018 as part of the celebration of Germinder’s 20thAnniversary. The women’s storytelling initiative highlights the founder’s story of breast cancer survivorship and also shines a spotlight on 20 leaders whose stories have touched and inspired Germinder to success. Initial donations have been made to The Weill Cornell Breast Center at the Weill Cornell Medical College/New York Presbyterian Hospital, an integrated, multi-disciplinary care center where Germinder was treated for breast cancer five years ago. Another recipient is the Clara Goy Foundation in memory of Germinder’s brother-in-law, Gene Melleno, a girl’s high school basketball coach who passed away Jan. 1, 2018. Other donations have been made to the Jan Hus Community Outreach Program in honor of Germinder’s immigrant great-grandmother Marie Therese Kacin and to the News Literacy Project.
