An Exciting Few Months of Celebrating Our Anniversary
As I look back, this past January and February flew by as we celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Goodnewsforpets.com during several veterinary and pet conferences. First up was the AVMA Leadership Conference in brisk Chicago weather. I got a chance to network with veterinary friends old and new and witness the historic passing of a positive revision to the AVMA’s policy on the domestic declawing of cats.
Then it was on to VMX where we toured the exhibit hall and had an exciting demo from Manolita Moore and her team at VMX Virtual (think Netflix). We also attended the annual “Gathering” of the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor and simultaneously cheered on the soon to be world champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Next up we attended the AKC “Meet the Breeds” in NYC. This year the event was separate from the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and was held in the expansive Javits Center. I liked the larger space and it seemed there was room for more educational areas. There was love all around with demonstrations and booths for many breeds. I also appreciated the presence of the cats from partner TICA and look forward to next year’s event.
In February, on the eve of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, Goodnewsforpets.com sponsored an award at the Dog Writers Association of America Banquet and Awards Dinner for the best digital story demonstrating the human-animal bond. We also gave out goody bags in honor of our anniversary. It was exciting to be a sponsor at the event and congratulate our Goodnewsforpets.com award recipient Paula Fitzsimmons in person.
Next up was attending the venerable Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The press room was in a new locale this year adjacent to the sponsor booths and we liked it. We are always quite fascinated by the history of the number of times each breed has won and hence this post about poodles due to Siba, the Standard Poodle winning Best in Show. Many of the Goodnewsforpets community were interested in how many times a beagle has won Best in Show, and how many times a German Sheperd has won Best in Show. Who will be next in 2021? We plan to be there!
The Western Veterinary Conference (WVC) was where we launched Goodnewsforpets.com 20 years ago and it was great to be back. The exciting news from WVC was the organization’s rebranding and launch into human health. We are eager to see how this One Health initiative rolls out while WVC continues its longstanding history of serving veterinary medicine.
We had that extra-special birthday party celebration on February 20th with our spokesdog and my grandpup Lola and her pal Rosie, lapping up some darn good canine birthday cake. We shared the video on our social platforms but trust me, the in-person experience was the real “icing on the cake.”
We’re Ready for 2020
We wrapped up February at Global Pet Expo where we congratulated the extraordinary Dr. Courtney Campbell on his work educating the public about pet care and we learned from APPA that 2019 U.S. pet owner spending reached $95.7 billion. If you are in the mood to spend in 2020, check out some of the great products we saw at Global Pet Expo here.
As we begin the month of March, we look forward to more collaborations with our contest partners and more. Again, pet owners can register for the contest here and companies interested in participated in the contest and other initiatives can email me at Lgerminder@goodnewsforpets.com. It’s good to celebrate, and great to celebrate with you.
