There’s alot of pet news coming through these days and while we haven’t stopped coverage, we are taking a “paws” for our own news to announce the next Germinder 20th Anniversary Power of Pink Honoree: Elizabeth Colleran, DVM, MS, DABVP – Feline Specialty. My interview with Elizabeth is here, but I must say I could go on and on interviewing her on the subject of feline medicine – as many have. And, if you are working on a project with her, only Elizabeth can describe the heavy lifting of patiently editing version after version of text with a peppy email, “isn’t this fun” – and usually after a run, a conference lecture, etcetera. She’s an amazing pro.
Related to Elizabeth’s selection as a Power of Pink Honoree is a shout-out to the American Association of Feline Practitioners. As I mentioned in my interview, this group has tackled many of the tough issues in veterinary medicine over the years – and not without controversy. They’ve stood firm in their beliefs – and not without financial sacrifice. At the same time, when they’ve needed to evolve, they’ve evolved, and pushed veterinary medicine further – both feline and canine! The original program I worked with them on so many years ago is one, the more current The Cat Friendly Practice that Dr. Colleran Co-Chairs is another. Many, many volunteer hours are expended when you are in a leadership role, when you create a task force, a committee. And that is something I have admired about this tenacious group over the years I have worked with the veterinary profession.
Another group I am thrilled to celebrate with the Germinder Power of Pink celebration is the Winn Feline Foundation. Dr. Colleran chose the Winn Foundation to receive a donation from the Germinder 20th Anniversary Fund, which is her choice as part of the Power of Pink Honoree program. We’ve worked with the Winn Foundation in numerous ways over the years – in fact Germinder redesigned their current logo and we regularly run their news. But, there’s always so much more to do.
Dr. Colleran, AAFP, The Cat Friendly Practice. The Winn Foundation. What A Great Power of Pink Celebration It Is.
