A: 1761 marks the founding of the first veterinary school in Lyon, France, formalizing veterinary education. The international veterinary community is marking this historic event this year with “Vet2011” and the theme “Vet for health, Vet for food, Vet for the planet.” The AVMA is the sole U.S. representative of this international campaign. The celebration began in Versailles, France, continues with AVMA in St. Louis, and culminates at the World Veterinary Congress in Cape Town, South Africa.
