American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists (AAVP) program organizers are delighted that the 2007 AAVP meeting will be corresponding with the American Heartworm Society’s 2007 Heartworm Symposium, and would like to invite its attendees to register for and participate in its general veterinary parasitology program. The AAVP meeting will be held at Grand Hyatt Washington hotel July 14-17, 2007, beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon-Tuesday afternoon.
In addition to providing primary research updates from all areas of veterinary parasitology, this year the AAVP is hosting an opening session focused on recent exciting advances in ticks and tick-borne diseases; providing a session to showcase interesting case reports from the parasitology diagnostic labs; and presenting an AAVP President’s Symposium at AVMA on Tuesday morning focused on national epidemiological studies of companion animal parasites, including heartworm. There will be a special session on Tuesday afternoon for veterinary parasitologists involved in parasitology educational efforts at all levels. Sponsored social events will be happening each evening as well.
The AAVP also welcomes submission of abstracts for presentation from parasitology researchers and graduate students. The AAVP is dedicated to supporting graduate students in all areas of veterinary parasitology and provides graduate student travel grants (matching funds), reduced registration for students, and a student presentation competition with cash awards given to outstanding papers. Presentations in the student competition are usually made Sunday morning in a special student session; all other presentations are grouped by topic in the general sessions. For detailed information on the 2007 AAVP meeting, including abstract submission guidelines, please see www.aavp.org.
Whether you come for the research presentations, the cool cases, the educators’ meeting, the social events, or all of the above – we look forward to seeing you in DC!
