Steve Dale

Steve Dale reaches more pet owners than any other pet journalist in America. As one of the nation’s foremost authorities on pets, Dale has been quoted in major print publications such as the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Redbook, veterinary publications and dozens more. He is a familiar face on television, having made appearances on local Chicago TV, The Oprah Winfrey Show, National Geographic Explorer and Pets Part of the Family, as well as shows for PBS, Animal Planet and others.

Dale has been writing a twice-weekly syndicated newspaper column for Tribune Media Services since 1995. He began his role as a contributing editor at USA Weekend in 2002. He also writes for Petforia (USA Weekend blog). He serves as host of two nationally syndicated radio shows, Steve Dale’s Pet World and The Pet Minute, heard on over 100 radio stations. He’s also a columnist for Cat Fancy and thecatchannel.com, as well as a regular on WGN Radio in Chicago. He blogs for the Chicago Tribune and for various other sites, including for Victoria Stilwell.

Dale is the author of ebooks, “Good Dog!” and “Good Cat!” He edited a book written by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists due out in 2013. He’s also written “American Zoos” and “DogGone Chicago.” Dale has offered introductions and forewords for many other books.

Respected by the veterinarian community, Dale contributes to protector, a publication for veterinary professionals. He frequently reviews materials and contributes his insights for a variety of journals, textbooks and guidelines published by veterinarian organizations.

Dale’s love for pets extends to numerous organizations. He is a founder and board member of the CATalyst Council. He also serves on the boards of the Winn Feline Foundation, Tree House Humane Society in Chicago and the American Humane Association, for which he serves as a National Ambassador. Dale is an ardent advocate for pet owners, creating the Chicago Task Force on Companion Animals and Public Safety.
