Deb Barnes, CWA President“Purina has been a long-standing sponsor of the CWA and I’m looking forward to partnering with them and our other sponsors again for our 25th anniversary event. It’s going to be a terrific educational and celebratory event for all who attend,” says Deb Barnes, CWA President.

The current list of sponsors includes: AAFP (American Association of Feline Practitioners), Alley Cat Rescue, the Catalyst Council, CatLadyBox, Ceva Animal Health, CFA (Cat Fanciers’ Association), Cornell Feline Health Center, Cuddle Clones, Dr. Elsey’s Cat Products, Fear Free Pets, Gentle Harvest, Germinder + Associates, Goodnewsforpets.com, GNFP Digital, Petco Foundation, PetSafe, Pet Tree Houses, Pioneer Pet Products, (PSI) Pet Sitters International, Purina, Sleepypod, TICA (The International Cat Association), Triple T Studios, Tomlyn and WBCL (World’s Best Cat Litter).

“Purina has supported the CWA vision of providing mentorship and educational resources to writers from Amy Shojaithe very beginning, with our first contest event,” says Amy Shojai, a CWA Founder. “I’ve attended every CWA conference, and they just get better each year, thanks in great part to visionary sponsors like Purina partnering with talented member volunteers. I’m excited to celebrate our 25th Anniversary event–it promises to be PAW-some!”

The CWA conference will feature a book-signing event open to the public at the conference hotel. In addition, the conference will feature sessions on publishing, writing, photography, podcasts, branding and more for new to expert writers of all stripes. A catalog of cat-centric attractions from a cat café to cat ears, catty awards to cat products is also planned.

DebraHorwitzDVMDACVBIn an earlier release from the CWA, Debra F. Horwitz, DVM, DACVB was announced as the featured keynote speaker at the conference. The topic of her talk will be, “Improving the Well-Being of Cats in the Home, Shelters and Post-Adoption.” According to Dr. Horwitz, many of the cats that are in shelters are afraid and appear unfriendly making them less likely to be adopted. Once in a new home, cats often hide when they are stressed, frightened and anxious about the new unfamiliar place. In many post-adoption situations, stress can lead to other behavioral issues which sometimes can result in the cat being brought back to the shelter.
