January 2007

This issue of Goodnewsforpets.com focuses on the North American Veterinary Conference (NAVC), taking place in Orlando, Fla., January 13-17. At the conference, Stephen J. Withrow, DVM, will awarded the 2007 Mark L. Morris, Sr. Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is presented each year at NAVC by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. to a veterinarian who has dedicated his or her career to improving the lives of companion animals. Dr. Withrow has received international acclaim for his work in the field of veterinary oncology. Please be sure to read more in our Top Story. The award was established in memory of a practitioner who set the standard for innovation and professional dedication, Dr. Mark L. Morris, Sr. To read more about Dr. Morris and his contributions to the veterinary profession, see Special Features. Additional information can be found in the Hill’s Newsroom.

Germinder & Associates, Inc. is proud to have worked with the American Heartworm Society since 2003. The AHS has just released its new 2007 Feline Heartworm Guidelines, which will provide practitioners and cat-owners with the most up-to-date information about heartworm disease.

The AHS, along with the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) and Pfizer, has also launched a feline heartworm awareness campaign called KNOW Heartworms. To learn more, please visit our What’s New section.

This is my thirteenth time attending NAVC, which draws a number of international professionals. This year I am going to have my own international experience when I speak in Nice, France. I anticipate I will have much more to share with our readers at a later date.

In closing, congratulations to Dr. Withrow for this award and further recognition of his tireless dedication and significant contributions to the health of companion animals.
