The American Humane Association recommends you hold the paw in your hand and locate the pinkish part of the nail. This is a blood vessel, often called the “quick,” and should be avoided. The nail should be clipped slightly above this area.
It’s important to make nail trimming a pleasant part of your pet’s life. No matter what age, size, sex or breed you have keep two main ideas in mind:
- Teach your pet to associate nail trimming with things they love
- Take it slow and easy
Pet grooming is more than a hair cut, pet health includes regular grooming. Proper grooming involves brushing their coat, bathing, clipping your pet’s nails, brushing their teeth, and cleaning their ears. It is also important to have the proper tools for home grooming, such as Oster’s “Less Stress Kit” which includes:
- Oster Calm Clips – Cordless Power Clipper Kit
- Oster® Gentle Paws Premium Nail Trimmer
- ShedMonster Professional De-Shedding Tool for Dogs* (long or short coat)
- Oster Shed Control Shampoo
