A 20th Anniversary Highlight

Editor’s Note: As we enter our final month of the 20th anniversary, here’s a look back at the first anniversary in 2000 and a post from our first editor, Julie Lux:

One year ago at this time, activity was at a high point for the staff of goodnewsforpets.com, LLC as they prepared for the launch of a new web site created as a news source for the media. A lot has changed in the online world since that February day when goodnewsforpets.com became operational for the first time. And, I am happy to report goodnewsforpets.com, like Elton John, is still standing.

The site is, however, changing. As you can see, our graphics and technical partners John Vincent and Lisa Holmes of Yulan Studio in Kansas City have redesigned the look of the site. In the fall of 2000, we began providing more original content and in the future,we will be producing more special issues such as our holiday issue and this one featuring the 2001 Western Veterinary Conference.

Your favorite features including Steve Dale’s always entertaining and enlightening column, the pet question and book reviews will remain. However, some of these and other sections will have new names and expanded scope. The book section, for example, will now be known as “What’s New” and may include information on new and interesting products from time to time along with reviews of new veterinary and pet books.

In last year’s user survey, you told us that you look to goodnewsforpets.com for sources for your stories and we are expanding the resource section of the site to reflect your interests.

Our primary goal remains the same: to provide dependable information for our colleagues in the media to use as inspiration for your stories. And my goal for the original material also is to present information that can serve as a springboard to new story ideas.

Because of the hard work, expertise and dedication of Shelli Manning, Amy Davis, the creativity and technical know-how of Yulan Studio and the commitment of the mastermind behind the site, Lea-Ann Germinder, goodnewsforpets.com has evolved into a destination site for many members of the media. Because of the support of good friends including Steve Dale, past and current presidents of the Cat Writers Association, Amy Shojai and Kim Campbell Thornton and Dog Writers Association of America president,Mordecai Segal, and all the outstanding members of these organizations, the word has spread about the site to media representatives and pet writers across the country.

Because of the confidence of our newsroom and news release center sponsors including Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc., Merial, Ralston Purina, the North American Veterinary Technician Association and Western Veterinary Conference, we are here to celebrate our first anniversary and to present you with this updated version of goodnewsforpets.com.

As always, we welcome your comments, suggestions and ideas about the site and thank you for your interest and support during this exciting first year. We look forward to being your online source for pet and animal health news for many years to come.
