The Cat Writers’ Association (CWA) is pleased to announce Debra F. Horwitz, DVM, DACVB will be the featured keynote speaker at the 25th Annual Conference and Banquet held May 16 -18, 2019 at the Drury Plaza Hotel at the Arch, St. Louis, MO. Early Bird registration is now open – to get your CWA conference ticket, click here #CWA2019
The topic of her talk will be, “Improving the Well-Being of Cats in the Home, Shelters and Post-Adoption.” According to Dr. Horwitz, many of the cats that are in shelters are afraid and appear unfriendly making them less likely to be adopted. Once in a new home, cats often hide when they are stressed, frightened and anxious about the new unfamiliar place. In many post-adoption situations, stress can lead to other behavioral issues which sometimes can result in the cat being brought back to the shelter.
In discussing her talk next year, Dr. Horwitz commented, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to speak to this accomplished group of writers and bloggers. They can help educate pet owners, shelter workers and the public at large about the many simple things that can be done to address behaviorial issues in cats and ultimately improve adoption rates and keep cats in their forever homes.”
“Finding solutions to behaviorial issues in cats and in the process improving adoption rates and addressing these problems in the home are topics of great concern to cat lovers everywhere. We are especially pleased to have a veterinary expert of Dr. Horwitz’ stature join our conference and share her views with CWA members and conference attendees so that we can help spread the word that there are indeed solutions. I for one am bringing extra notepads!” said Deb Barnes, CWA President.
Debra F. Horwitz, DVM, DACVB, is an award-winning lecturer, author, media spokesperson and past president and former public relations chair of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB). One of her many authorative works in behavior includes a chapter in Feline Stress and Health: Managing Negative Emotions to Improve Feline Health and Wellbeing, a Guide published by the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM).
The CWA conference will feature a book-signing event open to the public at the conference hotel. In addition, the conference will feature sessions on publishing, writing, photography, podcasts, branding and more for cat experts in must-attend panels, seminars, and one-on-one meetings. A catalogue of cat-centric attractions from a cat café to cat ears, catty awards to cat products is also planned.
