(New York – May 12, 2016) – The Cat Writers’ Association (CWA) is pleased to announce the 2015 nominees for the 2015 #CatWriters Communication Contest, list of nominees below. Winners will be announced at the 22nd Annual CWA Awards Banquet on June 24th at the 2016 #BlogPaws Conference in Phoenix. A limited number of free and discounted tickets to the event are available here.

The annual contest drew nearly 300 entries from writers, photographers, broadcasters and artists competing in 37 categories – with one person earning a perfect score, netting 100 from each of the three judges. Entries were evaluated by a panel of professionals, including writers, artists, video producers, veterinarians and other highly credentialed judges.

Highlights from this years’ competition include:

  • All nine entries in the I.4 Magazine Article: Rescue & Advocacy category earned Certificates of Excellence by scoring 90 or higher.
  • Online Article: Health & General Care category proved to be the most competitive with a contest high of 30 entries.
  • Entries across all categories were all-encompassing, ranging from top cat travel place, creative ways to teach cat tricks, estate planning, carefully crafted cat haikus to managing feral cat colonies, treating eye problems in cats and even fiction books with memorable feline characters.

“The submissions for the CWA communication contests represent a goldmine of inspiring and informative entries with a common goal: to bring out the best in cats everywhere,” said Arden Moore, award-winning author, radio show host, pet first aid master instructor and CWA 2015 Contest Chair. “Bloggers, authors, writers, broadcasters, artists and photographers tapped every mode of communication in this year’s highly competitive contest. We look forward to honoring the winners at our 22nd annual CWA Awards banquet.”

The top submission for each category will receive the coveted Muse MedallionTM, named after CWA founding member, the late Karen Kuykendall, who designed the coveted Muse Medallion. Karen was also the first recipient of a Muse Medallion. In addition to the highly sought-after Muse Medallions, numerous special awards, many including cash awards, are awarded through the generosity of corporate and private sponsors.
