AVMA Convention Seeks Talent From Attendees For First Time

Schaumburg, IL — Got talent? Planning to attend the 2011 convention of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in St. Louis July 16-19? Well, get ready to open for actor/comedian Jay Mohr!

For the first time, the AVMA is holding open auditions for talented members, friends and family of the AVMA to perform at the annual convention as an opening act for comedian Jay Mohr. Mohr will be doing a comedy show at the Sunday Night Live event on July 17.

“We know we have talented members and friends at the AVMA. This is a great opportunity to showcase that talent,” explains Dr. Ron E. Banks, chair of the AVMA Convention Management and Program Committee. “Up to three finalists will serve as warm up acts for Jay Mohr, who is famous for performances in movies like ‘Jerry Maguire’ and as an alumnus of ‘Saturday Night Live.’ The winner will receive free registration for the 2012 convention in San Diego, California.”

Talent can range from singing, dancing, playing an instrument, telling jokes, or anything else that can entertain an audience. Video submissions must be posted on the AVMA’s Facebook page by no later than 11:59 p.m. July 1, 2011. The finalists will be judged on the quality, creativity, and the appropriateness of their act for the convention audience plus the number of “votes” their act receives on the AVMA’s Facebook page. To vote, viewers simply watch the submissions and hit the “Like” button for their favorite performance. The “Like” button serves as their vote for that performance.

AVMA conventioneers will get a second chance to vote on the winner during the event. Just like a televised talent competition, people in the audience will vote to pick a winner from the finalists during the performance via text message voting.

The AVMA offers complete contest rules on its website, www.avmaconvention.org. For more information about the AVMA, visit www.avma.org.
