DENVER, Colo. – Achievements in veterinary medicine will be celebrated at the 2011 ACVIM Forum in Denver, Colo., June 15 – 18, 2011.
The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine’s (ACVIM) Innovators campaign gives recognition to ACVIM Heroes in Medicine, whose research affects the future of both animal and human health. The 2011 ACVIM Heroes in Medicine are:
- Natasha Olby, VetMB, PhD, DACVIM (Neurology) – Collaborative work with an international research team led to the discovery of the gene responsible for NCL, a fatal brain disease in American Staffordshire terriers similar to Kufs’ disease in humans
- George Lees, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Small Animal Internal Medicine) – Research into hereditary nephropathy in dogs helps humans with Alport syndrome
