Where There’s Ranny Green, It’s All Good!

It doesn’t get much better than Ranny Green. That cool cucumber of a veteran writer with a heart of gold.  I could not believe what I was hearing. I’ve followed his writing for years and of late would catch up when I visited every year in the Westminster Kennel Club press room. His speech at the Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA) dinner in February upon winning his Maxwell Medallion and announcing he was giving it to his Sandy Hook schoolgirl brought everyone to tears. Now he was interested in working with us at Goodnewsforpets.com. By now we’ve announced he’s joined the Goodnewsforpets.com editorial team.
But what to start with?

Behavior is an important category to cover. As we headed into the annual AVMA Denver convention, working on the latest American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB) columns seemed a perfect fit. You can read his first collaboration here with Dr. Katherine Houpt, an interview about Creating a Mensa Dog: What Learning Really Is, and How Dogs Learn from the ACVB’s Decoding Your Dog book.

We’ve also finally relaunched our book section with Ranny’s original review of Decoding Your Dog that appeared on the Seattle Kennel Club web site. You will also find there Jody Miller’s Bark and Swagger fabulous recent three part interview with Decoding Your Dog co-editor Dr. Debra Horwitz. Miller requested the interview after she received a copy of the book at a press dinner with Decoding Your Dog co-editor Steve Dale and just could not put it down.

There will be more coverage from Ranny coming from AVMA. I’m proud to say Goodnewsforpets is a bronze sponsor of  the ACVB & AVSAB’s Annual Veterinary Behavior Symposium Friday, July 25 held in conjunction with the AVMA meeting in Denver, Colorado. I think there may be a story or two to tell from that meeting.

As the months unfold we will collaborate on more topics of interest. Because when it comes to Ranny Green, for people, for pets, for everyone around him, it’s all good. Ranny, you are a gem, we are happy you are in the dog world and we are indeed happy to have you as part of the goodnewsforpets team.
