Western Veterinary Conference Announces Don Waldron, DVM as Chief Medical Officer

Las Vegas, NV—Following an extensive candidate search for the newly created position of chief medical officer (CMO), Western Veterinary Conference announced today the hiring of Dr. Don Waldron to fill the position.

Beginning April 2, 2012, Dr. Waldron will oversee all aspects of veterinary programming, personnel, Animal Care & Use and associated duties relating to veterinary hands-on laboratories at the Oquendo Center and the WVC Annual Conference.

“We look forward to Dr. Waldron joining us,” says Assistant CEO David Little. “Don will provide an immediate boost to our veterinary oversight and programming with his extensive background in veterinary continuing education.”

Dr. Waldron brings an extensive veterinary background to the CMO position: A graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, for the past three years, he has served as director of specialty services for VCA Veterinary Care Animal Hospital and Referral Center in Albuquerque, NM. Dr. Waldron is a member of the WVC Board of Directors and currently serves as the organization’s Hand’s-On Laboratory educational manager.

After completing his veterinary education, Dr. Waldron interned at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, worked in private practice and completed a surgical residency at the University of Florida. He has held veterinary college faculty positions at the University of Florida, Louisiana State University and most recently Virginia Tech. In addition to his institutional and practice work, Don has co-authored a surgical textbook and has contributed to more than 60 publications in various veterinary journals.
