Steven A. Levy, VMD

Steven A. Levy is currently President of Veterinary Clinical and Consulting Services, LLC. Steve is a globally known, highly respected researcher & educator and is considered the premier expert on Canine Lyme Borreliosis. He holds numerous professional memberships and has received countless industry awards recognizing his expertise, his cutting edge research and his leadership contributions to the veterinary community and beyond.

From 1977 to 2008, he held various veterinarian roles of increasing responsibility within the private sector, including ownership of the Durham Veterinary Hospital in Durham, CT. In 1998, in partnership with the Connecticut State Police, he created the position of State Police K-9 Unit Surgeon and developed and implemented a comprehensive health maintenance program for up to 80 Police Canine Teams. He was actively involved in Emergency Services and Disaster Preparedness; undertaking numerous leadership roles (Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director). Throughout his career, he has also collaborated with leading industry organizations, including Fort Dodge Animal Health, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, IDEXX Laboratories, and Summit VetPharm as a sales and marketing consultant, an external and internal medical educator and researcher.

Steve practiced shelter and humane society medicine from 2008 to 2010 at the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, Kansas. In 2011 he and his wife returned to Connecticut. In Connecticut Steve is active in clinical research on canine Lyme and other vector-borne diseases as he continues his humane society clinical medicine work at the Connecticut Humane Society Fox Memorial Clinic in Newington, Connecticut.

Steve received his BS Degree in Natural Sciences from Bard College (NY), and his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine (PA). He has completed additional studies in Laboratory Animal Medicine (MA) and in Medical Acarology (OH). Throughout his career he has published numerous research studies in peer reviewed journals, including Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, JAVMA, Compendium for Continuing Education, Journal of Medical Microbiology, Journal of Applied Research in Veterinary Medicine and the Merck Veterinary Manual.
