Como Zoo is proud to present an unusual evening of art, featuring work by Como’s own orangutan Amanda. Art By Amanda will take place in Como Zoo’s Primate Facility on Friday, February 23 from 7-9 p.m. For this free event, the public is invited to view artwork created by the 24-year-old orangutan, and bid on her paintings at a silent auction. They can also see the creative process first hand, as Amanda will demonstrate her painting skills.
For the past year Como Zoo Zookeeper Mike Thell has been working with Amanda the orangutan, encouraging her creative skills and acting as her “studio assistant.” Originally started as part of an animal enrichment program, the results of this project have been astonishing – we have discovered that Amanda is extremely creative!
