The League’s annual cross-country Tour for Life, an international journey for the first time this year – officially began on Wednesday, March 23.
Throughout the month of April, three of the League’s thirty-five-foot long shelters-on-wheels will be motoring from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic shore and from the Florida peninsula to the Canadian province of Ontario. Along the way, the eye-catching vehicles will stop at local animal organizations where NSAL America associates will help find the best adoptive homes for all the dogs and cats in the shelters.

At the same time in the United Kingdom, North Shore Animal League International’s colorful Tour for Life van will be motoring through Scotland and England, also making stops at local shelters, to encourage local animal lovers to adopt a pet and save a life. In London, the League will be partnering with the cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – both two-legged and four-pawed – to implore all citizens of the UK to visit their local shelters where the most adorable, adoptable pets reside.

Tour for Life 2005 kicks off in Los Angeles on Friday, April 1, 2005 with Judge Judy presiding over the opening ceremony. The Tour is then scheduled to make additional stops in Chicago, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Nashville, New Orleans, New York City, North Little Rock, Richmond, Sacramento, San Antonio, Spartanburg, St. Louis, Cortland, New York; Eatontown, New Jersey; Englewood, Colorado; London, Ohio; and Sterling, Virginia during this international pet adoption blitz. It all wraps up with the worldwide Pet Adoptathon® on April 30 and May 1, 2005. As international spokesperson, Judge Judy will deliver the message: “Adopt a shelter pet and make a friend for life” through television, radio, billboards, and print media in North America and the UK.
