ORLANDO, FL- The North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) has announced that it will provide the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA’s) Board of Directors and Executive Director a wide range of services, including assistance in managing the day to day operations of the organization, to better support their mission: “The mission of NAVTA is to represent and promote the profession of veterinary technology. NAVTA provides direction, education, support and coordination for its members and works with other allied professional organizations for the competent care and humane treatment of animals.”
The two not-for-profit associations will work together to develop new products and services for Veterinary Technicians, including webinars, articles, conference lecture tracks and online courses.
Julie Legred, CVT, NAVTA’s Interim Executive Director, said, “This partnership is exciting for Veterinary Technicians because it opens up a large number of opportunities to provide leading edge continuing education choices for North America, with the best use of people and resources. NAVTA will remain its own entity, operate under its same Constitution and By-Laws and continue to work with all sponsors and conferences as they have in the past, embracing many veterinary organizations and allied associations. This partnership will now enable NAVTA to offer and provide input into many additional benefits and opportunities for Veterinary Technicians, while polishing and enhancing the communications and services provided to its members.”
Tom Bohn, NAVC Chief Executive Officer, stated, “We’re very excited to enter into this unique partnership with the preeminent Veterinary Technician association, NAVTA, as we expand the NAVC’s portfolio of products and services to the entire veterinary team. This is a unique model for not-for-profits and extends one of our strategic objectives to be the leading veterinary community, hence the NAVC’s name change earlier this year from North American Veterinary Conference to North American Veterinary Community. We look forward to meeting the growing dynamic needs of the Veterinary Technician community.”
Lynne E. Johnson-Harris, LVT, RVT, is the 2013-2014 President of the NAVC. She’s the first Veterinary Technician to be an elected Board member of the NAVC (she has served on the Board since 2003), and is the first Veterinary Technician to serve as the President. She added this statement about the NAVTA agreement, “This is a very exciting time for the two organizations. By joining forces, we will be able to offer the best in continuing education to all members of the veterinary heath care team, 24/7, fulfilling the mission of both organizations.”
NAVC & NAVTA will hire a leading edge Executive Director to help fulfill the mission of NAVTA and support the NAVC’s Veterinary Technician programs. Detailed communications are being planned as part of the transition.
