In this issue of Goodnewsforpets.com, we recognize Matilda the Algonquin Cat of the famous Algonquin Hotel in New York City. The Algonquin Hotel is a well known landmark to most New Yorkers and especially to writers. As a New Yorker myself, I was pleased to learn about Matilda and discover the rich history and tradition behind the Algonquin Cat.

Matilda, the reigning Algonquin Cat inspires special hotel deals like “Friends of Matilda,” where pet lovers can receive 20 percent off of the hotel’s best available rate. Matilda has also inspired the Algonquin Loves Pets Program where pet owners are welcome to bring their furry friend along. The program features services and amenities that ensure that traveling pets are pampered throughout their stay. To learn more about this program or about Matilda read our Top Story.

The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) is preparing for their annual ACVIM Forum which will take place June 3-6th in Montreal. To learn more about the ACVIM Forum or to register for the conference visit the What’s New section of Goodnewsforpets.

The Morris Animal Foundation continues their Happy Healthy Cat Campaign with their latest initiative Helping Shelters Help Cats. This effort aims to raise pet-owner awareness of feline health issues and increase funding for research and scientist training. MAF is also a sponsor of the CATalyst Council, a coalition of the veterinary community, academia, organizations and nonprofits to champion the cat (www.catalystcouncil.org).

June is Adopt-A-Cat month and there are several ways that you can get involved and make a difference in the lives of our feline friends. More information about Adopt-A-Cat month will follow in the next issue of Goodnewsforpets.com.

Finally, I continue to encourage the cat writers out there to enter the CWA contest. Please feel free to contact me with any comments or questions at lgerminder@germinder.com.
