Interzoo 2010 Even More International

Nürnberg again becomes the meeting-place for the international pet supplies market from 13-16 May 2010, when some 1,450 manufacturers, wholesalers and service providers from over 50 countries present their new products and services at Interzoo. The world’s leading exhibition for the pet industry offers the professional audience a comprehensive overview of the global market on a gross display area of more than 90,000 square metres.

79 per cent of the suppliers at Interzoo 2010 come from abroad (2008: 77 per cent). The largest display areas are occupied by companies from Germany (18,200 m2), China (4,900 m2), Italy (4,500 m2), the Netherlands (2,600 m2), Great Britain (2,400 m2), the USA (2,200 m2), France (2,000 m2), Belgium (2,000 m2), Spain (1,300 m2) and Poland (1,100 m2). The largest shares of growth are also from abroad this year: especially Hungary, Switzerland, Finland, Turkey, Austria, Thailand, Hong Kong, China and India have booked larger display areas this year. Newcomers are Luxembourg, Mexico, French Guiana, Croatia and Vietnam.

Klaus Oechsner, President of the German Pet Trade & Industry Association (ZZF), the honorary sponsor of the exhibition, rates the great interest in Interzoo 2010 as an indication of a stable pet supplies market: “Living together with pets is still a source of great pleasure to people all over the world and in many countries pets are just being discovered as members of the family. The pet supplies market therefore has good growth prospects and Interzoo offers the ideal setting for launching new ideas.”

Hans-Jochen Büngener, Chairman of the Interzoo Exhibition Committee, also reports that the exhibitors expect a lot from the coming Interzoo: “The industry is counting on positive development of the international pet supplies market, because experience shows that pet owners set other priorities than consumers without pets. Pet owners still demand products of a reliable quality for their pets, even in difficult economic times. The manufacturers face this existing and constantly growing sense of responsibility with continuous improvement and expansion of their product ranges.”

Trend to health products

Hans-Jochen Büngener expects two main trends for the products at Interzoo 2010: “Dependable quality at prices geared to target groups in all segments and many new products in the health and fitness segment.” For pet food, he sees a trend to more products in the food supplement segment and to special food to suit the individual needs of the pets and certain sensitivities: “Pets are exposed to strains caused by our environment and exaggerated hygiene in the same way as people. The latest pet food is therefore not only animal-friendly, but also based as closely as possible on the animal’s natural nutrition.”

43 per cent of this year’s exhibitors present articles for dogs and cats, and the second largest product segment is aquaria with 20 per cent. 19 per cent of the exhibitors present articles for small animals and rodents, 15 per cent products for cage and aviary birds, and 12 per cent of the exhibiting companies articles for animals in the garden and terraria supplies.

Other product groups include supplementary articles for the pet supplies trade, such as equestrian sports or boutique articles, animals and plants in the home, trade literature, multimedia, shop fittings, packing, pet food technology and various services. The data provided by the exhibitors possibly included multiple answers.

International attendance

37,200 trade visitors from 114 countries sourced information about the industry’s new products at Interzoo 2008. Most of the pet specialists came from Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands and Spain. Overall, the internationality of the Interzoo visitors rose to 62 per cent.

Interzoo 2010 is also intended exclusively for specialists from the pet industry. Pet owners, breeders and other private persons are not admitted to the exhibition, which enables the promoter to guarantee high-quality visitors. At Interzoo 2008, for example, the largest groups of visitors included self-employed businessmen and proprietors (49 per cent), general managers (15 per cent) and department managers (15 per cent). Almost all visitors (95 per cent) are involved in procurement decisions in their company.

Online ticket shop opens mid March

Pet experts can register as visitors in the online ticket shop from 17 March onwards. Visitors from other countries in Europe can also order their entrance tickets and exhibition catalogue by phone. The tickets and catalogues ordered are not mailed until about four weeks before Interzoo.

Interzoo visitors with specific travel and accommodation requirements should arrange their stay in Nürnberg soon. Various travel packages and means of transport are offered at www.interzoo.com. Whether hotel, family boarding house or private room, over 25,000 beds in all categories are available for participants in Nürnberg.

Animal welfare at Interzoo

Interzoo is a trade fair for pet supplies, not for trading live animals. If an exhibitor wishes to present pets, he must register the presentation before the exhibition and ensure that he keeps the animals in accordance with the directives and provisions applicable in Germany. Examples of presentations not allowed are ornamental fish in column and wall-picture aquariums or reptiles in micro-terrariums.

The promoter of Interzoo is Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft Zoologischer Fachbetriebe GmbH (WZF), which has appointed NürnbergMesse GmbH for the organization of the exhibition. The German Pet Trade & Industry Association (ZZF) is the honorary sponsor of the exhibition.
