NEW YORK, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ — Madison Square Garden will open its doors to 300 homeless cats on Tuesday, February 22, 2000. The Feline Love Fest is open to the public — admission-free — and will run from 2 to 8 p.m. Adoptarama goal: 300 cat adoptions.
INCATS Adoptarama, cat adoption extraordinaire, will be held in the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden. It is being organized and co-sponsored by INCATS — producer of the Tiffany of Cat Shows, The INTERNATIONAL CAT SHOW coming to The Garden on March 4 and 5.
“We anticipate that INCATS Adoptarama will start a nationwide movement of Mega Cat Adoptions,” says Barry Goldstein, INCATS counselor. Goldstein says, “INCATS was formed to help all cats. We have supported FeLV research at Sloan Kettering Institute, Cornell Veterinarian Research, as well as various humane organizations and no-kill shelters. Now, with the generous support of co-sponsors Madison Square Garden and Pfizer Animal Health, INCATS has organized a Tiffany-style adoption event for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut homeless felines.”
This “Cat off the Street” event is a heart-warming way both to rescue abandoned cats and to show the public what beautiful, loving and entertaining pets adopted cats can be. Hundreds of vet-inspected cats and kittens will be showcased for public adoption. These felines will be escorted by dozens of area shelters, rescue groups, and humane organizations including the Humane Society of New York, Bide-a-Wee, New York ASPCA, Center for Animal Care and Control, A Place for Cats, FidoNYC. Co-sponsors of the event are Madison Square Garden, INCATS, and Revolution(R) (selamectin) — Pfizer Animal Health’s new product that protects dogs and cats against heartworm, fleas and other harmful parasites.
“There is a crisis of urban pet homelessness,” says INCATS president, Vicky Markstein, “and we want to find homes for these abandoned pets. Adoptarama is our gift to a city whose strong support over 16 years has made the International Cat Show America’s most popular feline event.”
