Human-Canine Fun Reaches New Heights with Mutts on the Mountain

Unique Westchester Parks Foundation Event Offers Two Opportunities to Traverse Blue Mountain Reservation with a Furry Friend

Mutts on the Mountain will take place at Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill.

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. (August 17, 2016)Want to get a paw up on the competition? Now, area residents can bone up on their human-canine running skills for what promises to be a unique Westchester Parks Foundation experience. The Foundation will hold its first Mutts on the Mountain races on Saturday, October 1 at Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill – the only timed trail race in the tristate area that permits people to run with their furry friends.

Locals can enjoy the hijinks with their hound in one of two races:

The 5K Trail Race and Lazy Dog Fun Run will be enjoyed by many dogs throughout the region including Riley of Pleasantville.

Registration is open for both Mutts on the Mountain races – $60 for each human-canine entry in the 5K Trail Race and $30 for each pair in the Lazy Dog Fun Run. T-shirts and doggie bandannas will be provided to all race participants. In addition to the races, spectators are invited to attend the event free of charge. There will be a carnival nearby the start and finish lines featuring a dog park, food and drinks, a marketplace and fun demonstrations for both humans and canines.

Sponsors include Westchester Concessions, Captain Lawrence Brewing Company and L.L. Bean. Blue Mountain Reservation is located at 435 Welcher Avenue in Peekskill.  For more information, contact event director Cristobal Slobodzian at 914-231-4582 or Cristobal@thewpf.org, or visit http://www.thewpf.org/event/mutts5k/.
