Over a hundred breeds of dogs and 23 breeds of cats combined were shown at Meet the Breeds
According to the American Kennel Club, not just a few dogs here and there, but Meet the Breeds is all about dogs (and cats). In the dog category, visitors saw Akitas to Whippets and everything in between. This event gave visitors the unique opportunity to meet and play with more than 100 different breeds and learn about them, firsthand from their owners.
If there is a favorite breed that you’ve seen in passing or online, but never met, this was the chance. Popular breeds like the Labrador Retriever (our favorite as in our Lola and our beloved Randy Jo) and Golden Retrievers were there to please. There were also newly recognized breeds like the Barbet (2020) and Nederlandse Kooikerhondje (2018), and more fan favorites like the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Bulldog. There were also a full range of breed sizes from Shitzhu to English Sheep Dogs. Each breed club takes great pride in educating and showcasing their breed. Check out the AKC full list of breeds that attended.
This year, the AKC proudly welcomed back the International Cat Association® (TICA®) to Meet the Breeds. According to TICA twenty-three breeds were shown. We visited several booths to learn about cat breeds including Russian Blues, Devon and Cheshire Rex, including Maine Coons, and more. We didn’t spy our Cocoa’s breed, the American Wirehair, maybe next year!
Meet the Breeds is perfect for pet owners, pet lovers, and families alike. This once a year opportunity to play and meet all kinds of dogs and cats was a wonderful event.
