Yep, it was a good one. Actually, it roared! Heading to Denver for my 23rd American Veterinary Medical Association convention I was looking forward to seeing my veterinary friends and colleagues. It had only been four years since AVMA had been in Denver, but it didn’t matter to me. I was eager to see not only the latest veterinary offerings but conduct some photo research for my latest digital writing projects.
The Blue Bear Welcomes All To Denver Convention Center
The Convention Center itself is anchored by an enchanting larger than life Blue Bear that greets every conventioneer. Souvenir bears are offered in quite a few places. It was endearing, but a photo sufficed.The actual AVMA convention was filled with innovation. I walked the exhibit hall, made new friends and hailed the tried and true. I sat down to interview AVMA president Dr. John de Jong before he begins his year-long media blitz to tell the story of veterinary medicine and all the good in the veterinary profession to the pet-owning public – and there is much to tell.
Don Lipski’s “Yearling” at the Denver Public Library
A photo shoot of NYC Artist Don Lipski’s “Yearling” sculpture was planned related to those digital projects outside the Denver Public Library. I had first discovered it while writing about “Spot” his larger than life Dalmation pup spinning a genuine NYC taxicab on her nose in downtown Manhattan. The Yearling had found its way to Denver after a NYC school had requested Lipski remove the lifesize horse from the chair. He declined.

And lastly for the tiger. I met up the last day with a dear Cat Writers’ Association of America friend. This organization will be celebrating its 25th anniversary conference next year. It is sure to be special, so stay tuned, and more to unveil very soon!
