Dr. Rod Hall, state veterinarian for Oklahoma, has extended a formal invitation for American Humane Association’s Red Star Animal Emergency Services to officially deploy to the disaster in Moore. With special thanks to our corporate partners – Mars Petcare, Banfield Hospitals and Zoetis – and donors Lois Pope, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton – our disaster response services provided to Oklahoma this week will include:
- Red Star Rescue Big Rig – our 82′ mobile veterinary hospital and triage disaster center for animals; this unit is self-contained and accommodates up to 16 responders for lodging and infrastructure and is sponsored by Mars Petcare.
- Lois Pope Red Star Rescue Vehicle – our 52′ mobile rig carries crates and medical supplies, and can even accommodate a horse trailer. This brand new unit also provides lodging for 4 responders.
- Sheltering and response teams – our staff and volunteers have participated in the only DHS/FEMA certified training curriculum for disaster sheltering for animals, and they are all highly trained and skilled. Response teams are heading to the scene tomorrow.
- Humane intervention supplies – our corporate partners have kindly agreed to provide food and medical supplies which we can stage at the temporary shelter at the fairgrounds.
