“Believe and Belong in Veterinary Medicine” Future Student Training Scheduled At VMX 2024
Bridgett Masterson
Young future veterinary students gather around Courtney Campbell, DVM, dipl. ACVS to learn veterinary surgery techniques at VMX 2023.
On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., more than 50 minority middle school students will gather at the Hyatt Regency Orlando for “Believe & Belong in Veterinary Medicine,” suiting up in surgical gowns, masks, and booties – just like real-life animal doctors and technicians, to practice their veterinary medical skills. Alongside a diverse group of veterinary experts, the underserved youth will try their hand at immersive training experiences that include:
Practice drawing blood using a model in the clinical pathology station, utilizing suturing models at the surgery station, performing CPR in the ER station and observing physical examinations.
Other workshop stations will focus on veterinary surgery, emergency medicine, clinical pathology and preventive care.
An educational station on animal nutrition will provide education about obesity and proper nutrition in pets.
Educational sessions on various topics related to the different pathways in veterinary medicine and a day in the life of a veterinary professional.
