Winn Feline Foundation Welcomes Two New Veterinary Consultants

Hillsborough, NJ (Jan. 7 2010) — Winn Feline Foundation President Betty White announces the appointment of Shila Nordone, MS, PhD, and Patricia Gallo, DVM, PhD to its panel of veterinary consultants. The panel of consultants advises the Foundation Board of Directors on its review of research proposals submitted for grant awards.

Dr. Shila Nordone graduated from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC with a BS in Animal Science in 1990. She completed a MS degree at Iowa State University (1994) in nutritional physiology followed by a PhD in immunology at North Carolina State University (2000). Dr. Nordone is currently a Research Assistant Professor and instructor in veterinary immunology at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She is the recipient of a number of honors including the Iowa State University “Excellence in Graduate Teaching” award (1993), Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society (1999), NIH training grant in AIDS research (2001-2003), and Fort Dodge Animal Health Liaison (2007). Dr. Nordone has participated in research projects and authored papers on human immunodeficiency virus, feline immunodeficiency virus, and Bartonella henselae.

Dr. Patricia Gallo graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1988. She completed a MS degree at Purdue University in nutritional sciences (1970) and a PhD in nutritional biochemistry from the University of Connecticut. Dr. Gallo has been the owner of T.H.E. Boston Cat Hospital in Boston, MA since 1994. She is a member and former Board of Directors member (1994-2003) of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) and has served on the AAFP Research Grant committee since 1995. Dr. Gallo has authored a number of publications regarding the effects of nutrition on behavior and has participated in clinical research trials related to feline health issues.
