National Veterinary Technician Week Activities

FLORIDA TECHNICIANS TO PARTICIPATE IN “PAWS ON PARADE”

The Florida Veterinary Technician Association will participate in SPCA’s “”Paws on Parade””, an annual event that benefits the local SPCA. “By participating in this event, we are able to expose the general public to both our profession as well as our association,” said Mike Patrick, CVT, Florida Veterinary Technician Association. The event will offer informative brochures, discounted micro-chipping, fun events (i.e. tail painting, paw print painting, professional pet photography, and other pet-related items for sale) as well as educate those who stop by the booth regarding the benefits employing a veterinary technician.

NORTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY ACTIVITIES

The North Dakota State University NAVTA Student Chapter will celebrate National Veterinary Technician Week with a variety of activities, including the 4th Annual Pet First Aid Clinic on Saturday, October 19. The First Aid Clinic will be open to the public and will be conducted by veterinary technician students. Students will also participate in the college’s Homecoming Day Parade with their own float celebrating the veterinary technician program.

IOWA TECHNICIANS HOST OPEN HOUSE

The Veterinary Technician program at Kirkwood Community College has a week of events planned for NVTW. An Open House was held Sunday, October 13, allowing students to share their educational experiences with family and friends. Monday through Wednesday will bring various speakers to campus, including a representative from the Animal Emergency Clinic in Des Moines, Iowa who will speak about emergency medicine, the AEC facility and career opportunities. Friday will include a complimentary CE seminar with a luncheon beforehand for students and graduate veterinary technicians. The seminar will discuss such topics as wildlife first aid and rehabilitation.
