Mourning Mr. Ike, National Pet Week, Catalyst Top Ten Cities and More

In this issue of Goodnewsforpets.com, we celebrate National Pet Week and also celebrate and mourn the loss of Mr. Ike, a special canine companion of goodnewsforpets.com’s first editor Julie Lux. Julie epitomizes what a responsible pet owner should be, and as a professional communicator, writer and member of the dog fancy, she has spread the word to so many. It was her love of dogs that led her to join us soon after the launch of goodnewsforpets in 2000.

The American Veterinary Medical Association continues its service to educate the public and veterinarians about a myriad of issues in the news not just during Pet Week, but every week. They are now doing more stories in video format as well as providing timely releases of information from government agencies. Read the Alerts Section and the News Release Section for more information, or go directly to their site at www.avma.org.

Steve Dale, another early goodnewsforpets champion and still a columnist, has quite a presence on the site this month with the CATalyst 2009 Top Ten Cat-Friendly Cities video and two interesting columns — one about the Facebook controversy and another different view about the Obama family’s adoption of Bo, the family dog.

Finally, as the Cat Writer’s publicity chair, I encourage the cat writers out there to enter the CWA contest. More on that in the next issue. Please feel free to contact me at lgerminder@germinder.com and I look forward to your comments.

Best Regards,
