PEEKSKILL, N.Y. (August 17, 2016)Want to get a paw up on the competition? Now, area residents can bone up on their human-canine running skills for what promises to be a unique Westchester Parks Foundation experience. The Foundation will hold its first Mutts on the Mountain races on Saturday, October 1 at Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill – the only timed trail race in the tristate area that permits people to run with their furry friends.

Locals can enjoy the hijinks with their hound in one of two races:

  • 5K Trail Race – For the more serious partners in crime, there are 3.1 miles to conquer, featuring steep climbs, water crossings, rock scrambles and nearly 500 feet of elevation gain. Check-in is at 8 a.m. The race begins at 9:30 a.m.
  • Lazy Dog Fun Run – Perfect for humans who tire easily as well as small and older dogs who can’t quite handle the 5K course’s “ruff” terrain, this 1-mile romp includes scattered obstacles and a great view of the lake. Check in at 8 a.m. and hit the course at 9:45 a.m.
The 5K Trail Race and Lazy Dog Fun Run will be enjoyed by many dogs throughout the region including Riley of Pleasantville.

T-shirts and doggie bandannas will be provided to all race participants. In addition to the races, spectators are invited to attend the event free of charge. There will be a carnival nearby the start and finish lines featuring a dog park, food and drinks, a marketplace and fun demonstrations for both humans and canines.
