ANIMAL SHELTERS ACROSS THE NATION JOIN PETCO FOUNDATION ‘SPRING A PET’ TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR COMPANION PETS

SAN DIEGO, March 17 /PRNewswire/ — Spring is a time of renewal. At PETCO (Nasdaq: PETC) pet food and supply stores, spring is the time to once again raise money for hundreds of animal welfare organizations that provide hope and a second chance to companion pets in need.

That second chance comes in the form of multiplying paper bunnies at PETCO stores each spring. Those paper bunnies are the symbolic part of a fundraising campaign called “Spring a Pet,” developed for the stores by PETCO’s non-profit organization, the PETCO Foundation. This is the seventh year the specialty retailer has run its annual springtime fundraiser. Last year’s campaign raised more than $375,000.

This year customers will have from now until April 23 to donate $1, $5 or $10. All donors will receive a paper cutout bunny that can be signed and displayed in the store or taken home as a reminder of their donation.

Proceeds from this hare-raising program go to support local animal welfare groups that provide services like adoptions and spay and neuter programs in their communities.

“We’re pleased to offer our customers and all pet loving people an opportunity to help their local animal welfare groups,” said Brian Devine, PETCO Chairman, President and CEO.

Hop on over to a PETCO store to contribute to the “Spring a Pet” fundraiser. Store hours for most stores are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For details on store hours and the store nearest you, locate the PETCO website at http://www.petco.com.

The PETCO Foundation was established early last year to develop and manage
fundraising campaigns in PETCO stores. During its first year it helped generate more than $1.1 million for more than 300 animal welfare groups across the nation. Proceeds from the campaigns go to local groups in communities in which the money was raised.
