Morris Animal Foundation Announces Call for Veterinary Student Scholar Proposals

WHAT:
Morris Animal Foundation (MAF) announces a call for 2008 Veterinary Student Scholar (VSS) applications. The MAF VSS program will award stipends of up to $4,000 to students who wish to participate in clinical or basic veterinary research. This program provides veterinary students an opportunity to become involved in veterinary research targeted at enhancing the health and welfare of companion animals (dogs, cats, horses, and llama/alpaca) and wildlife or special species. Grants are not limited to U.S. colleges. Veterinary Student Scholar awards are open to all first- through third-year veterinary students from an accredited college or school of veterinary medicine in their country.

WHY:
The National Research Council of the National Academies has determined a critical need for increased veterinary science research. At the same time, the number of veterinary students going into research is declining. The VSS program is designed to give veterinary students exposure to research in hopes that they will consider this career path. The VSS program is part of MAF’s overall initiative to train and mentor more veterinary scientists. HOW: The official call for proposals is available at www.MorrisAnimalFoundation.org/scientists.
