NAVC Appoints New Director of Education
The North American Veterinary Conference is pleased to announce Aine McCarthy, DVM, MS, as its new Director of Education. No stranger to NAVC, Dr. McCarthy has been attending the annual NAVC Conference since 1989 in various capacities and was elected to the NAVC Board of Directors in 2005.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Dr. McCarthy join our association,” said NAVC Executive Director Colin F. Burrows, BVetMed, PhD, MRCVS, DACVIM. “Her love of veterinary medicine coupled with her strong industry background is a desirable combination for her new position.”
As the Director of Education, McCarthy will head the NAVC Institute, NAVC Regional meetings, the NAVC On Campus program and the fundraising Education Partner Program.
“I am honored and excited to join NAVC full-time,” said McCarthy. “I have learned so much through my years spent researching and developing products for various companies and I hope to apply my educational and business acumen to this new position.”
The newly created position stipulates that as the Director of Education, McCarthy must live in Gainesville, the headquarters of the NAVC association. The position combines that of the previous Director of Education Richard DeBowes, DVM, MS, DACVS who ran the NAVC Institute and NAVC On Campus programs and that of Ralph Barrett, DVM, DACVIM as NAVC Regional Director.
“We were operating on two different coasts with Rick in Washington state and Ralph in California,” said Burrows. “Our tremendous growth and the time needed for each entity left us really no choice but to hire a full-time, in-house director,” said Burrows.
A 1986 graduate of Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, McCarthy developed her career in the veterinary industry with a focus on pet health, nutrition and well-being. McCarthy worked in small animal veterinary sales, sales management and education for Hill’s Pet Nutrition. In 2003, she joined Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) as Director of Veterinary Services eventually becoming the Director of Veterinary Marketing. Before coming to NAVC, she served as Director of the Super Premium Brands Marketing Global Strategic Business Unit of Nestlé Purina PetCare and was the Executive Director of the Purina Pet Institute.
McCarthy is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association and is also on the Board of Directors of the American Veterinary Exhibitors' Association
